As an EMG Technologist, you will perform nerve conduction studies for patients while assisting with instructing other staff, residents, physicians, and technicians in laboratory procedures. Caregivers in this position are responsible for maintaining order within the laboratory, assisting with research studies, analyzing designs and executing additional nerve condition studies, replenishing lab supplies, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes designs and executes additional nerve conduction studies based on initial findings based on initial results and knowledge of peripheral neuroanatomy.

  • Operates the nerve conduction instrumentation; ensures proper adjustments for accurate recording procedures.

  • Selects nerves to be studied by reviewing requests and patient history.

  • Educates patients on EMG examination.

  • Performs various administrative functions related to the laboratory.

  • Obtains patient's EMG reports and transmits them to the physician on request; mails pieces to referring physicians.

  • Maintains files on all requests for reports.

  • Cleans and restock EMG rooms and equipment.

  • Replenishes lab supplies in examination rooms.

  • Uses knowledge of Neurophysiology to assess the data's reliability and problem-solve to minimize error.

  • Relates procedures to the referring diagnosis .

  • All other duties assigned

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, associate's Degree in an accredited END program, or at least two years of college with some human anatomy and Physiology.

Certifications:

  • Must obtain certification as a Registered Nerve Conduction Study Tech within two years of hire date.

  • BLS from AHA required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires working knowledge of Peripheral neuropathy and Neurophysiology

  • Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Within the scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • Healthcare-related experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic physiology, anatomy, and science to locate nerve locations and understand electromyography test results.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing and walking for an extended period. Must lift and carry Items weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients, i.e., pushing beds, carts, and wheelchairs.

  • Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate the equipment.

  • Requires normal or corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicate diseases or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
