Summary:

The Corporate Tax Accountant applies principles of accounting to prepare federal and state corporate tax returns. They adjust and examine financial statements and prepare tax workpapers for tax preparation.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.

  • Collects appropriate data and prepares federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.

  • Ability to refine knowledge to calculate depreciation continuously and maintain fixed asset schedules throughout year and at year end.

  • Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.

  • Performs research on tax matters and renders opinions based on written code and regulations. Participation in Tax Planning recognizing potential risks

  • Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.

  • Oversee and track all company taxes including Federal Corporate, State Corporate, Sales, Tangible, Premium, Excise and all other taxes

  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers

  • Ability to read legal documents and/or closing documents and to report them correctly for tax purposes

  • Monitors compliance with tax code and with company procedures

  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports

  • Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures

  • Designs and maintains pro formas for current and proposed contracts to determine pricing and profitability

  • Understanding of amortization and goodwill as it relates to tax and financial statements

  • Preparing Accounting Tax workpapers and learning tax software to assist with the completion of tax returns

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience.

  • Corporate tax

  • Ultra-Tax Software Experience preferred.

  • Experience performing double-entry accounting is preferred including experience with Balance Sheets and P&L’s, journal entries and financial statements

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business is strongly preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

None

Computer Skills:

Proficiency using software programs such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. Experience in Quick Books and other tax programs are a plus.

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active customer and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system; enter alpha-numeric data into a computerized system often while listening on the telephone. May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting to thirty (30) pounds.
