In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk’s innovative oral products. The Position
Monitor & operate equipment, troubleshoot, identify improvements & assist in maintenance & optimization of assigned equipment systems for the API-US facility. Incumbents perform routine technical tasks independently.
Relationships
Manager (Black Util, Clean Util or RMS).
Essential Functions
Monitor process control systems & operate assigned process areas & equipment
Frequently makes decisions of minor importance, which may affect the work operations of other employees &/or clientele to a moderate degree
Troubleshoot, maintain & identify system improvements
Provide technical support for site projects, operations & maintenance as required
Adhere to all Quality & Environmental & EH&S regulations within area of responsibility
Support technical development of Utilities & Maintenance Technicians
Continuous process improvement using cLEAN® concepts
Support the maintenance & establishment of SOPs/ standards for processes/equipment & maintenance plans
Coach/Train production operators related to relevant processes & equipment
Support all design, installation, commissioning, qualification, training activities for assigned area
Develop & implement reliability driven maintenance & monitoring plans & practices, including oversight of third-party service providers
Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements
Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Strap & unstrap pallets using hands. Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering/technology or equivalent combination of education & experience required
Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in engineering, engineering technology, design technology, or a related field required
Knowledge & experience in the operations, maintenance & design of utilities &/or bulk chemical storage equipment required
Experience working in a regulated environment (FDA, cGMP, OSHA) preferred
Proficiency in Black Utilities, Clean Utilities &/or RMS systems to include: purified water, clean steam, process air, boilers, chillers, compressors, cooling towers, waste systems, chemical storage & distribution systems, solvent distillation required
Prior qualification/work experience required
Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with a basic understanding of P&ID, PFD, electrical systems & equipment schematics preferred
Understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT, Commissioning & Validation Protocols preferred
Understanding of complicated equipment manufacturer supplied documentation & standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts preferred
Computer literacy with associated systems. Working knowledge of process control systems (i.e. Delta-V & Siemens BMS) preferred
Organization/Planning: Proven expertise in planning/organization/execution of project & maintenance activities, following up on results & revising the work plan for complex problems being resolved by cross functional teams preferred
