We are seeking a Senior Chemist to join our Analytical team in our Clark, NJ Research facility. This role is responsible for Chemical Stability testing and method development. This role is part of the Innovation & Expertise team, which provides support for L’Oréal’s Research & Innovation (R&I) across all product types, and throughout the innovation process. This role provides critical business support and is expected to evolve as the needs of R&I evolve, providing the successful candidate with opportunities for business impact and growth.

As an Senior Chemist in our Analytical team, your main responsibilities are:

  • Prioritize and coordinate stability testing and ensure data is accurate and reported to meet project timelines

  • Design and conduct research to develop, validate, and implement novel LC (UV & MS) and GC (FID/MS) methods and assays that are technically relevant to the groups supported and that will help us further grow our analytical toolkit

  • Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects

  • Perform root cause analyses for non-conformance events related to laboratory testing

  • Collaborate closely with our brand partners in support of product development, to drive company strategy and initiatives to completion

  • Collect, process and interpret data accurately, derive conclusions based on sound science, and prepare technical reports to effectively communicate results and findings to key stakeholders (audience with and without scientific backgrounds)

  • Continually develop knowledge in new areas of product technology to improve efficiency in assigned projects

  • Adhere to written procedures and practices to ensure good quality, compliance, and safety

  • Quickly adapt to changes, delays, unexpected events, and manage multiple projects prioritizing the work to ensure on-time delivery of results for critical project milestones

  • Maintain awareness of consumer trends, as well as evolving capabilities in the analytical chemistry field, with emphasis on LC (UV & MS) and GC (FID/MS)

  • Develop working relationships with cross-functional teams, labs, and international colleagues to ensure technical breadth and depth

  • Perform general troubleshooting and maintenance for LC (UV & MS) and GC (FID/MS) based instrumentation

  • Maintain necessary documentation in accordance with company SOPs and GMP guidelines

  • Actively participate in L’Oréal’s international analytical technical communities

To Succeed in this Position, You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry with 3-5 years of professional experience or a Master’s degree in chemistry with 2-4 years of professional experience.

  • Strong experimental background and skills using LC (UV & MS) and GC (FID/MS) based instrumentation (4+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience a must)

  • Experience and passion for solving challenging technical problems

  • Experience in the field of analytical chemistry including new method development, validation, troubleshooting and experimental design desired

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet timelines

  • Strong attention to detail, high level of motivation, initiative, and sense of urgency

  • Experience in the cosmetics, personal care or consumer goods industries is a plus but not required

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills ranging from conceptualization to implementation

  • Ability to take calculated risks, be proactive and self-directed

  • Committed to delivering high quality results and overcoming challenges

  • Strong knowledge of ICH guidelines, GMPs, and FDA regulations related to OTC products in a plus but not required

  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems and software

  • Self-motivated to learn, hardworking and curious, with the ability to think innovatively about difficult research problems

  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future (required)
