Job Description

Production Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives. This position is responsible for ensuring workforce and physical resources are adequate to meet the production schedule. The supervisor will select, develop, train and cross-train personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the production function. In addition, the Production Supervisor is responsible for resolving employee issues and effectively working with internal company departments to resolve technical production issues. Ensures the working environment is clean, organized and safe for employees at all times. Understands and ensures team compliance with all Teledyne safety policies and basic safe work practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise Electromechanical and Mechanical Assemblers. Ensure the safety of the employees, equipment and the work areas.

  • Provide training to Production personnel on all aspects of building and testing complex electromechanical and electronic devices, safety, corporate policies and work habits.

  • Ensure all Production personnel have a clear understanding of their expectations and the measurements used to gauge their performance.

  • Determine work schedules, overtime and allocation of resources and resolve problems as they occur.

  • Ensure compliance to all state and federal regulations pertaining to the storage, use and disposal of materials.

  • Provide written and/or oral instructions, including, work procedures and work schedules.

  • Proactively monitor the status of work orders and production processes and direct employees, in such a manner, to ensure that all quality, cost objectives and On Time shipment goals are met or exceeded.

  • Make recommendations for changes or improvements to procedures and workflows to improve efficiency of employees or the quality and cost effectiveness of the products.

  • Monitor quality of all work to ensure that the highest standards are consistently followed and met.

  • Monitor productivity of employees to maximize product flow by adjusting assignments and cross training all employees.

  • Work with planners to schedule workloads and resolve or expedite issues related to needed parts.

  • Work with buyers and vendors to manage material needs.

  • Prioritize special requests for support from other areas or departments.

  • Direct subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies of Teledyne.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job provides general supervision to exempt and nonexempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include providing leadership to employees, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 2-5 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as a Team Lead along with supervisory/leadership training may be considered as equivalent experience.

  • A Bachelor’s degree or technical Associate's degree is preferred.

  • Experience supervising multiple work groups that manufacture diverse and complex products is preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate a team to achieve performance objectives.

  • Must possess excellent communication and personnel management skills, including acting with a sense of urgency, business etiquette, providing timely answers to internal customer's inquiries, and expediting resolution to all issues.

  • Basic knowledge of the principles of electronics and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Knowledge of the principles of mechanical assembly, hand tools and critical measurement tools and ability to read and understand electronic schematics and mechanical drawings.

  • Knowledge of the principles of lean manufacturing, including 5S and value stream mapping.

  • Experience with new product introduction processes and requirements is a plus.

  • Experience with manufacturing and material resource planning tools.

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX experience is preferred.

  • Intermediate MS Office skills, including ability to open and create files in Word, create and manipulate data in Excel and use E-mail and calendars in Outlook. Previous ERP/MRP system experience is desirable with the skills to access and manipulate other database applications.

  • Candidate must possess U.S. citizenship or be a "U.S. Person". (A U.S. Person is defined as a person who is a lawful permanent resident “Green Card holder” as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101 (a)(20) or who is a ”Protected Individual” as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Salary Range:

$74,800.00-$99,880.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
