UC HEALTH LLC Transport Paramedic (AFSCME) in CINCINNATI, Ohio

To function in a role as a professional transport paramedic that will provide care in the out of hospital setting and serve as the primary care provider whose primary setting will be interfacility transports and on occasion first response. The transport paramedic will be required to provide care to patients ranging from infant to geriatric. This role will be expected to assess, plan, implement intervention, and evaluate the appropriate level of patient care according to the Ohio Paramedic Scope of Practice, Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati Southwest Ohio Protocols, Commission on Accreditation for Medical Transport Systems as well as organizational and departmental policies and procedures.Education: High School Diploma, Active paramedic certificate required. Experience: One year of Emergency Medical Service experience as a Paramedic preferred. Intra-facility transport experience preferred. Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • BLS (American Heart Association) at time of hire
  • ACLS (American Heart Association) at time of hire
  • PALS (American Heart Association) or ALS-Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professionals (ALS-PEPP)
  • NRP (American Academy of Pediatrics) within 1 year of hire
  • FEMA 100, 200, 700. FEMA 800 (preferred)
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations or its equivalent (preferred)
  • Completes mandatory annual education training for unit specific, hospital, and safety
  • Completes EKG test upon hire and annually with a passing score
  • Performs diverse duties involving an extensive knowledge of protocols, medical techniques, equipment, and the use of a wide range of procedures
  • Requires the use of judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances

License and Certification: Current Ohio Paramedic certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire. Active, unrestricted Driver's License with no more than 4 accrued points.PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY):

  • Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Patient Care:

Possess knowledge and skill to ensure assessments are pertinent and accurate. Independently implements a comprehensive, scope specific plan of care that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and educational needs of the patient and their family before and throughout transport
