We are excited to announce a unique and exceptional opportunity to join Johnson & Johnson as a Senior Preclinical Development Engineer within Interventional Oncology (INTO). Interventional Oncology is a cross-sector program within Johnson & Johnson to transform the treatment of oncology patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the INTO engineering sciences preclinical lead as well as the broader cross functional team to identify key scientific questions to be answered for critical projects.

  • Lead the approach that will be used to answer key questions with benchtop and preclinical models.

  • Employ strict scientific rigor to develop new test methods, draft protocols, execute ex vivo tissue testing, analyze results with statistical methods, and draw conclusions that will drive the overall program development.

  • Aid in the validation of current preclinical models and the development of new preclinical models.

  • Develop preclinical test protocols (ex vivo and in vivo) and provide oversight to testing facilities on execution of the studies and analyses of the results.

  • Work with external partners (academic centers, contract research facilities, key opinion leaders, engineering consulting firms) to ensure experiments conducted for the project are completed on time and with sufficient detail to draw meaningful conclusions from the studies.

  • Attend team meetings for relevant programs.

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with internal & external preclinical and R&D partners to access relevant equipment, tissue, and facilities for testing.

  • Propose, review, and refine experimental protocols.

  • Conduct hands-on lab-based experiments (including ex vivo tissue and in vivo testing as necessary) to address key scientific questions for multiple programs.

  • Collaborate with external partners to develop contracts, protocols & conduct experiments (20-25% travel may be required).

  • Document study protocols, data, and reports

  • Draw conclusions from test data and provide recommended next steps to cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Engineering-based bachelor’s degree is required; advanced engineering/scientific degree (MS, PhD) is preferred.

  • Demonstrated understanding of biology and/or oncology required.

  • 3 years of hands-on tissue testing lab experience required, 5 years desired.

  • Experience developing & validating complex test methods required.

  • Experience with large animal models and murine tumor models preferred.

  • Experience with operating mechanical test equipment & designing test fixtures required.

  • Experience using statistical methods to analyze complex data sets required.

  • Experience partnering with external contract research organizations (CRO) or other in vivo and ex vivo testing partners preferred.

  • Experience with pharmaceutical development (including experimentation in preclinical models) preferred.

  • Experience conducting ablations in tissue models preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $73,000 to $117,300. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year

  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
