Job Overview As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. A full time Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Xiaowei Hou, PhD in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Research in Dr. Hou's laboratory aims to understand molecular mechanisms that govern Ca2+ signaling under physiological and pathological conditions. Specifically, we study structure and function of protein complexes important in Ca2+ signaling, whose malfunctions could lead to immune disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic diseases, and cancer. To achieve this goal, we use a combination of cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology (including X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy). The incumbent will perform general lab duties, conduct research, and make independent contributions to research projects and studies in the lab. Essential Functions Order supplies and lab managing duties. Organize and maintain common chemical and non-chemical stocks. Participate in the preparation of reagents. Apply research principals for less complex assignments. Perform experiments and record data according to research protocols. Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. Perform related duties based on laboratory needs. This job description can be changed at any time. Required Education Bachelor's Degree. Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Additional Qualifications Considered Experience and strong interest in biological research. Prior experience and knowledge of cell culture, protein purification, molecular cloning, or monoclonal antibody generation is a plus. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
