Job Overview As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. A full time Post Doc Fellow position in the area of cardiovascular biology is available in the laboratory of Dr. Guo-Chang Fan in the Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The primary research focus of the Fan lab is to explore the role of immune cells and gut bacterial membrane vesicles in sepsis- and ischemia/reperfusion-triggered cardiovascular remodeling. Specific areas of interest for this position include cardiac residential macrophage proliferation, macrophage polarization, macrophage efferocytosis, and characterizations of probiotic/pathogenic bacteria and their released membrane vesicles in cardiac function and endothelial permeability.Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. Essential Functions Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology. Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research. Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results. Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing. Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise. Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed. May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff. Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Required Education Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree Additional Qualifications Considered Two or more first-author publications, and received Doctoral degree within the last two years. Knowledge of bacterial infection animal models, LPS- or CLP-induced sepsis models. Experience in flow cytometry, immune-staining, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, real-time PCR, and Western-blot. Experience in isolation of membrane vesicles from bacteria and cells, isolation of tissue lymphocytes, primary cell culture.
