Note: the preferred location for this position is Charlotte, NC but other locations will be considered.Position Summary This incumbent will act as an Operational Technology (OT) Subject Matter Expert (SME) as a team member of the Grid Automation & Systems Program Development & Governance team within Power Grid Operations. The position will be focused on development and management of Proof of Concepts (POC) and Pre-Scale projects with focus innovation and efficiency for new capabilities, technology application and reliability improvements for transmission and distribution. Candidate should have a strong background working with operational technology protective relays, controls, and automation devices. The Lead Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Lead Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Lead Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Lead Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve. Responsibilities/Functions Hands-on experience and thorough knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) hardware, software, and controls. Provide comprehensive OT SME support for regulatory initiatives, emergent technology and engineering. Knowledgeable of distribution automation, system protection, and reliability Develop technical guidance and implement effective technology policies and procedures. Offers specialized knowledge and direction in discerning, examining, and solving complex issues while being adept at envisioning future outcomes. Function as a liaison to various business partners and vendors. Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with the ability to conduct analysis and recommend process enhancements and standards relative to area of assignment. Conducts engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating complex projects; applies extensive technical expertise to manage projects and disseminate knowledge to enhance the organizational unit's competitive position. Lead development of business case and cost/benefit analysis support Knowledgeable of distribution automation, system protection and reliability Keeps abreast of new developments, technologies procedures and equipment. Project Management support for development of scope, cost estimate and funding request for proof of concept and Pre-Scale projects. Provide standards modification/creation, detailed design criteria and refines cost estimates. Foster innovation through the evaluation of new technologies and market trends through discussions and review of materials from utilities, National Labs, DOE and other industry sources. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. Required/Basic Qualifications Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Minimum 8 years of
