Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Explosive Control Coordinator to oversee and manage all aspects of explosive materials handling, storage, and safety within our organization. The Explosive Control Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, implementing best practices for explosive materials management, and mitigating risks associated with the handling of explosives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of explosive materials safety protocols.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain/improve comprehensive explosive materials management policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

  • Oversee the receipt, storage, handling, transportation, and disposal of explosive materials, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of explosive materials storage facilities, equipment, and processes to identify and address potential hazards, deficiencies, or non-compliance issues.

  • Deliver comprehensive training programs on explosive materials safety, handling procedures, emergency response protocols, and regulatory compliance requirements for personnel involved in explosive materials operations.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and external partners to ensure timely and accurate reporting of explosive materials inventories, incidents, and regulatory compliance documentation.

  • Maintain accurate records of explosive materials inventory, usage, and disposal activities, and ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements.

  • Coordinate with relevant departments to implement emergency response plans and procedures for explosive materials incidents, including evacuation, containment, and cleanup protocols.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on explosive materials handling, storage, and safety to management, supervisors, and employees.

  • Stay informed about changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to explosive materials management and safety, and ensure organizational compliance.

  • Investigate incidents, accidents, or near misses involving explosive materials, and develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience OR Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in explosive materials management, safety, or related field, preferably in an industrial or military setting.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing explosive materials handling, storage, and safety.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively train, supervise, and motivate personnel involved in explosive materials operations.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience of demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, employees, and external partners.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience of demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations and make critical decisions quickly and effectively.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience of demonstrated commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement in explosive materials management practices.

  • Perform tasks using a ladder with possible heights up to 10ft. Capable of bending, twisting, and lifting 25lbs.

  • Ability to learn the WMS system (Costpoint/Cognos) and process transactions electronically and physically to ensure overall inventory accuracy.

  • Incumbent must be able to successfully complete PIV training and qualify on the equipment (WAVE/Forklift) within 45 days of on-the-job training.

  • Must be a United States Citizen.

  • Must be able to qualify as an ATF Responsible Person.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Certification or training in explosive materials handling, safety, or management (e.g., Certified Explosives Specialist).

  • Proficient in MS Office applications Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Requires strong accurate counting ability, attention to detail, flexibility to changing priorities, strong customer focus, and mid-level problem solving ability skills.

  • Should have a proven track record of reliability and have demonstrated the ability to pay attention to detail along with solid organization skills that surpass that of their peers.

  • Prior experience with Hazardous materials or basic understanding of explosives and compatibility groups/N.E.W. is beneficial but not necessary.
