Ohio Valley Goodwill Direct Support Professional (CARE program) in Cincinnati, Ohio

For over a century, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been providing support, breaking down barriers, and creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities across Greater Cincinnati to thrive. For the past fourteen years, Ohio Valley Goodwill's award-winning Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education (CARE) program has demonstrated its commitment to the Greater Cincinnati community by choosing to volunteer to support many of it's organizations. The CARE program offers an array of opportunities for individuals to become fully involved and connected with their communities as well as building personal relationships with others. In our CARE Program, the Direct Support Professional will be responsible for assisting participants in facility and community engagements. Helping in implementing a diverse program of choice driven activities appropriate to meet the desired physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of the participant served. Some areas included are: thematic crafts projects, exercise, adaptive sports, iPads, computers, music, community integration outings, leisure/lifestyle education, special events and skill development programs to assist in facilitating positive community experiences for CARE participants.  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Minimum of High school diploma or GED. EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred prior experience in the DD field and/or bachelor's degree with experience working within a DD service delivery system.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background investigation and various registry checks.
  • Must pass DMV check, pass road test, DOT physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol test and random testing throughout employment.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of proper Behavior Support principles and crisis intervention.
  • Must be able to record data for participant documentation.
  • Training in CPR, First Aid and Goodwill's Emergency Procedures.
  • Must possess superior judgment skills in order to ensure the health, safety and well-being of adults with developmental disabilities

WORKING CONDITIONS:      

  • Must be able to move around the facility to include all work areas including the larger community.
  • Must be able to complete paperwork.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing personal assistance to consumers or material handling, which entails frequent bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • This is a Part-Time position.  Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 2:00 pm (M-F).
