The College of Medicine, Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting for a full-time (100 % FTE), ASCP certified, Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1 in the Quality Control Laboratory. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist 1 will perform routine and complex quality control testing of blood and blood components, as well as high-level evaluation, review, and interpretation of test results. Candidates shall be able to perform with minimal supervision, be proficient in computerized data entry and retrieval functions, and communicate effectively with individuals within and outside the department. This position will be trained on 1st shift and assigned to work on the 2nd shift after training is completed. Essential Functions Perform testing, interpret and record results. Perform quality control and proficiency testing. Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results. Communicate and report test results to external customers, as well as internal. Respond to other healthcare professionals' questions regarding results. Clerically process incoming patient blood samples. Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate. Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review. Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate. Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area. Assume on-call responsibilities, as required. Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Required Education Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science. Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Trainings/Certifications Some labs require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP). Additional Qualifications Considered Require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP). If not certified, applicant must obtain MLS certification within 1 year of hire, with first board of certification test attempt within the first six months of hire.
