About the role
Our Project and Engineering team for NAM (North-America), is currently growing and will finally be composed of 5 to 10 persons, is integrated in the Projects department and focuses on engineering and delivering capital investment projects in collaboration with Engineering contractors and Solvay Business units .
As Project Manager (PM), you will be responsible for managing the assigned projects, you will interface with the Global Business Unit (GBU) management throughout project implementation and will communicate progress to the Project Steering Committee on a monthly basis, at a minimum. You will be first assigned to a new grassroots Silica plant that Solvay is developing in North America. This major investment will be built in the Gulf of Mexico zone (Texas, Louisiana, Mexico) with engineering developed originally in Europe with transition later on to North America.
The project management covers all aspects of executing industrial investment projects in Solvay’ s manufacturing facilities (both “grass root” and expansion based projects in the process industry). The projects will follow Solvay’s Project methodology, based on a stage gate approach with Front End Loading Phases 1 to 3, followed by an execution phase.
The Project Manager is assigned during the early FEL phase and will normally follow the project for the complete lifecycle, if the project is approved to progress to the next stage.
You will report directly to Solvay’s Head of Projects
You will be accountable for:
Ensuring that safety is correctly implemented in the project, both during design and execution, and through construction phases, aligned with GBU host site safe work practices and Corporate Policies.
Specifying the scope in early project stages (FEL1→3) and managing the EPCM and Construction services/contract resources necessary to support the project
Managing the capital project including the costs, schedule, functional group activities, and communication to all levels of the organization
Delivering of the project’s scope of work as agreed to with the sponsoring Business Unit and consistent with the project’s safety goals and protocols, regulatory requirements, established budget and schedule duration
Monitoring and reporting of project progress for safety, quality, scope, cost and schedule, throughout execution and be capable of implementing any corrective actions required
Using of other capital best practices as appropriate (e.g. constructability reviews, value engineering sessions, risk analysis and management, execute change control consistent with the established Delegation of Authority, assessment schedule compression techniques…) to ensure consistency in project development and predictability in project execution through adherence to company processes and protocols.
We offer a permanent contract based on hybrid working mode.
Travel is anticipated to be around 30% but will vary with project location, complexity, project phase and resource availability. Travel mainly domestic and some international will be required.
About you
Relevant education degree or equivalent in Engineering discipline is required. Mechanical or chemical engineering degree is preferred. PMP or other project management certification is a plus.
Relevant work experience in (minimum history of 10 years) in successful project management on large size industrial capital projects (>$200M) and experience in working within and/or managing international project team is preferred
Demonstrated leadership history in supervising direct reports and third party engineering contractors within virtual engineering teams in the successful completion of projects through commissioning and startup activities.
Competencies:
Construction management and HSE experience
Positive experience in managing an engineering team and EPMC contractors
Define capital projects including the project scope, the business case justification, the expected results, the determination of project costs, and completion of project documentation consistent with Front End Loading (FEL) requirements and best practices
Understanding of engineering discipline design sequence and integration for overall design delivery, and integration to downstream construction packages
Fluent command of English language, spanish language is a plus

About the pay and benefits
Attractive and equitable pay for all: compensation is determined within a range to foster your development in the role. While the primary country (United States) base pay reasonably expected for this role is 133 000 USD to 167 000 USD, your salary may ultimately be higher or lower based on your skills and experience. Additionally, we provide a competitive total rewards package that includes a bonus and/or other incentives.
