Salary range: $80,000 - $110,000  DOE/Q

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Learning and Development collaborates with the Chief People Officer and key stakeholders to create a healthy, thriving organizational culture and guide the learning and development strategy for MAAC. This key leadership role anticipates onboarding and continuing education needs based on the strategic growth and development strategy. The Assistant Director owns the learning and development strategy from end-to-end and is responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating programming that prepares staff for high performance across all program areas. This Assistant Director is also responsible for effective change management in a rapidly growing and evolving social services delivery environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide the development and implementation of an innovative learning and development strategy that will advance skills and expertise of colleagues.

  • Enhance core capabilities in talent management and organizational effectiveness practices (onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, high performing teams, organizational design, change management, performance reviews, succession planning etc.)

  • Assess learning needs, build upon existing content, and provide engaging trainings, including in-person and virtual workshops, external programs, eLearning, and on the job training to meet MAAC’s organizational needs.

  • Outline career development pathways and align training curriculum to core areas of development; educate staff on growth and development trajectories in the organization.

  • Utilize metrics and data analytics to measure the effectiveness and impact of L&D initiatives, making data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.

  • Oversee the design and implementation of the MAAC Leadership Academy and Executive Coaching programs.

  • Advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategy through leading practices in recruitment, hiring, team building, and infusing these concepts throughout the learning experiences.

  • Build out an internal Learning Management System (LMS) of high-quality, high-impact training materials to support staff development.

  • Support other departments in designing and building trainings that utilize best practices in instructional design, facilitation, and adult learning principles.

  • Manage relationships with external L&D vendors and consultants and evaluate their capacity to support the organization.

  • Manage the Learning and Development budget, staffing, and administrative areas.

  • Stays informed of latest external trends, research, and best practices in the areas of learning and development, career development, and talent management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, human resources, psychology, organizational development, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of proven track record in leading organizational learning and development.

  • Expertise in instructional design, designing and implementing learning curriculums & programs, technical skill development programs, leadership development programs, and onboarding programs.

  • Ability to utilize data analytics to track and evaluate the effectiveness of learning and development initiatives.

  • Previous experience coordinating DEI efforts and action plan or similar initiatives.

  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce results partnering with delivery professionals and cross-functional partners across the organization.

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
