Citigroup Assistant Vice President, Business and Corporate Communications Lead in Chiyoda, Japan

The Business & Corporate Communications Lead is a professional who integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. Contributes to standards around which others will operate. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Requires basic commercial awareness. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and external/internal audiences.

Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Excellent communication and diplomacy skills are required. Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information.

  • Has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results of a defined area.

  • Assist in executing communications strategies and work with diverse groups to produce various content including written and video content and facilitates an open exchange of ideas and solutions.

  • Write and edit communications to deliver consistent messaging.

  • Manage and oversee content and distribution of newsletters as necessary.

  • Development and implementation of the communications strategy to maintain and strengthen reputation among the key audiences, based on the business and marketing strategy, global and local priorities

  • Promotion of the key advantages of the company, its products and services with external and internal communication instruments among key external audiences and employees

  • Assist the business/function with all information required to strengthen company’s reputation and for implementation of the Public affairs strategy

  • Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role within teams. Involved in coaching and training of new recruits.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of communications and 5-8 years of experience

  • Strong communications (written, verbal and interpersonal) skills, including tact, diplomacy, and ability to influence senior executives

  • Integrity, maturity, dependability, a positive professional attitude

  • A team player who will implement initiatives effectively and motivate others to perform their tasks

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills

  • Experience or demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based environment within a heavily matrixed organization

  • Track record of success in delivering high quality work in a fast paced and dynamic environment

  • Critical competencies include oral communication, written communication, project management, relationship building, results orientation and strategic orientation

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, communications, marketing or another related field
