The Frances Xavier Warde School Nfp Summer Camp Counselor in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary

We are looking to hire a number of Summer Camp roles at our Day Camp based in downtown Chicago. Our camp is setup as a traditional Day Camp, in a premier independent school facility. Summer camp counselors will lead children through a variety of activities including sports, arts and crafts, cooking, science, swimming and much more. Camp will be 5 days per week for 6 weeks. Counselors must love working with kids ages 4 through 13, and enjoy running around, engaging the kids in the full day of activities planned.

Job duties

  • Provide campers a safe environment.

  • Enforce all rules that pertain to the Day Camp and facility on a constant basis.

  • Adhere to check-in and check-out policy.

  • Maintain a vigilant watch on campers in all program areas.

  • Perform regular head counts and keep an accurate attendance list of assigned children.

  • Follow and adhere to discipline procedures.

  • Maintain cleanliness and order of camp in order to ensure safety.

  • Ensure the safe use of the facility and execution of activities through enforcement of facility and activity-specific regulations and insuring that only authorized patrons participate.

  • Protect, maintain, and be accountable for group camp supplies such as assigned radio, folder and group backpack.

  • Report any and all facility defects/problems to Camp Manager or Lead Counselor.

  • May be required to wear activity appropriate attire (i.e., swimwear for Aquatics, etc.)

  • Attend all mandatory meetings/training.

  • Provide enriching and stimulating environment.

  • Provide leadership with enthusiasm.

  • Plan activities, lesson plans, and supervision of activity stations with the help of other counselors.

  • Provide excellent customer service and communication with parents.

  • Interface respectfully with peers, supervisors and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Handle disputes with participants, parents and students in a professional manner with guidance of Camp Manager or Lead Counselor.

  • Communicate any disciplinary issues to Camp Manager and parents.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Reliable, hardworking, and fun personality.

  • Must be 16 years of age or older and be available for all 6 weeks to be considered. (Please be aware that anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian complete required compliance paperwork with employee. Paperwork includes, not limited too; Fingerprint, Background Check, Authorization to work in the United States, References, Mandated Reporter Training as well as other trainings)

  • For the summer of 2023, all camp counselors who are eligible to receive the vaccine, need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before beginning.

  • Background working with school-based auxiliary programs or summer camps.

  • A valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency.
