Job Description
Position Summary
The Senior Debt Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the Company’s debt records, and verifying that the various systems used to manage debt are aligned with its respective lenders. In addition, the Debt Accountant is responsible for reconciling the debt-related general ledger accounts (interest expense, accrued interest, principal) to the lender invoices on a monthly basis.
Responsibilities
Act as a single point of contact for Debt Management system updates
Request/Manage loan documentation from lenders/servicers
Perform monthly debt reconciliations
Maintain current debt information automations as needed
Pull loan documentation from lender portals in instances where automation cannot be leveraged.
Review loan information for all loans on a quarterly basis to ensure that Company records are aligned.
Work with Capital Markets, Financial Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Property Accounting and others to ensure that the Company’s debt instruments are presented accurately in the financial statements
Audit support for debt-related inquiries
Special projects as assigned
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
CPA eligible/certified preferred
Minimum 2- years of experience in Accounting and has compiled and prepared journal entries for input to an ERP accounting system
Strong Excel skills
Solid analytical and problem solving ability
Strong organizational skills
Deadline and detail-oriented
Minimum 2 years experience with debt/financial accounting required
Commercial real estate experience in corporate or property accounting preferred
Microsoft Office and experience with an ERP system (JD Edwards, etc.)
