The salary for this position is $73,425 to $107,690, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This range is based on a full-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Investigator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day FAA, industry partner, and other regulatory activities including handling incident cases, responses, audits, surveillance activity, and investigations. They are leaders among leaders in upholding and improving system processes and policies through regulatory compliance. The Senior Investigator possesses strong organizational skills, is passionate about aviation, demonstrates an outstanding attention to detail, can solve problems creatively and inspires change. The Senior Investigator must possess the traits and skills vital to uphold regulatory matters frequently with leadership at higher levels than this position. They will also be encouraged to effectively represent Airport Operations to government officials and industry bodies and take on the role of acting program manager from time to time.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with government authorities, industry partners, internal and other external stakeholders

  • Handle the lifecycle of incident and project cases:

  • Investigate (collect and analyze data, review systems, review policies & procedures, interview employees and management, identify and communicate with information holders, etc.)

  • Facilitate and participate in root cause analysis, risk assessments, incident reviews, briefings, de-briefings, and brainstorming sessions

  • Document findings, evidence, case status, etc.

  • Write comprehensive reports, present data, discuss findings, communicate case status

  • Identify and assist process owners

  • Handle challenging conversations and competing interests

  • Implement new continuously improve programs which promote regulatory compliance. Promote regulatory compliance at events including safety fairs, classes, conferences, and other company or industry functions and by developing, disseminating, and maintaining manuals, bulletins, advisories, and other documents

  • Facilitate and assist with safety, regulatory, quality, and industry audits relating to Airport Operations, including but not limited to FAA, CAAs, OSHA, IATA, and DoD

  • Facilitate cross-divisional meetings, updates, and follow-ups regarding active and recently closed compliance cases, strategy and development for mitigations, policy changes or updates to manual and checklists

  • Carry out other responsibilities and collateral duties as assigned

  • Provide SME-level expertise on regulatory matters to internal and external partners including handling and supporting projects improving or establishing regulatory compliance. Research regulations, company documents, guidance documents, industry standards, and other sources of information. Continuously learn relevant new skills and refresh existing knowledge by attending training and other development events. Represent and promote the interest of Airport Operations and United Airlines while working with internal and external partners by having an in-depth understanding of their requirements, operating environment, strategic direction, and other factors

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant work experience

  • Aviation, safety, project management, risk management, dangerous goods, investigations, or equivalent

  • 3+ years of relevant leadership experience at varied locations in Airport Operations, Airline Operations, or equivalent strong asset

  • Prior work experience with investigations, regulatory compliance, audits, and/or regulators a strong asset – both within and outside of the aviation industry

  • Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal skills, a high degree or diplomacy, maturity, and discretion are required

  • Substantial experience with Microsoft applications

  • Self-starter with the ability to successfully complete multiple time-sensitive tasks without direct supervision, particularly while traveling and on occasion when working long or irregular hours

  • Ability to work under tight and critical time constraints, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Travel is required up to 60%. Must maintain a valid, unrestricted passport and maintain unrestricted ability to travel anywhere United Airlines and any of its business partners may be located.

  • Must be able to maintain airport SIDA and other credentials as required.

  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time, inside and outside, occasionally in harsh or otherwise challenging environments, at and around airports. PPE is required in most airport environments.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree

  • For internal applicants – proficiency with SHARES, Aero, Jet, MAP, Unimatic, Ramp Scanning or load planning systems an asset

  • Internal Airline Operating systems

  • RCA investigation, auditing, and equivalent certifications an asset

  • Solid understanding of SMS and investigative tools (ex: RCA, Sologic, HFACS) a strong asset
