Business Unit Description:

Technology Infrastructure and Innovation (TI&I) spans the areas of Technology, Corporate Services, Enterprise Security & Risk Services, Enterprise Programs & Delivery Excellence, Capital Markets Wealth Management Operations and Retail Operations & INTRIA. TI&I delivers operational excellence by effectively managing the technology and operations required to run our bank, enables our bank’s transformation by focusing on clients, innovating for the future and simplifying the way we operate and supports our bank’s growth objectives through flawless execution of strategic initiatives.

JOB PURPOSE The Senior Director, Strategy and Planning is accountable for facilitating strategy, business case development and consulting support to the group including the creation of strategic roadmaps and planning. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESDeliver Value-added Strategic Direction

  • Develop strategies to ensure the strategic roadmap of TI&I align to LOB objectives

  • Leads the development and management of roadmaps

  • Acts as primary liaison for LOB partners for strategy and transformation

  • Participate in the development of programs, tools or services by assessing the impact, effectiveness and feasibility of proposed changes

  • Work with business partners to identify performance measurement needs and development of potential solutions to address emerging needs

  • Provide a focused effort on ensuring delivery of solutions are managed in a client-centric environment

Strategy Development and Planning

  • Support the annual Strategic Planning and Project Planning processes for US TI&I

  • Promote an environment where innovative solutions are employed to ensure efficient, timely problem resolution, which meet business needs and regulatory requirements

Planning and Communication

  • Prepare business proposals, reports, analysis, plans and presentations, including recommendations regarding strategic projects, initiatives and assignments

  • Provide guidance to TI&I leadership team with respect to key issues regarding strategic initiatives and analytics

  • Ensure a coherent and comprehensive approach to the design and implementation of initiatives across TI&I to increase efficiency and minimize cost

  • Provide leadership and expertise, particularly with regard to the identification of key issues, creation of novel business solutions and project plans

  • Provide advice and guidance on complex conceptual problems

  • Provide regular feedback to ensure optimal performance

  • Provide motivation, coaching, training and developmental opportunities to ensure employees are capable of identifying and implement process improvements

  • Creating a positive work environment and being an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values

  • Ensuring compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect, and

  • As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness

Cross-Functional Relationships

  • Partners with senior executive leadership in TI&I to discuss issues, explain and elicit their support for CIBC's position

  • Peers at major financial institutions, industry associations, specialized consultants, professionals, leaders of special interest groups and appropriate public relations contacts (e.g., reporters, researchers) to maintain knowledge in the field and promote/negotiate CIBC's interests

Compliance Requirements

  • As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls

  • 15+ years’ experience and Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred

  • Strong background in process improvement. Six Sigma Certification, preferred

  • Ability to think and analyze strategically and conceptualize ideas in a creative manner to drive change and improve current state

  • Enterprise level experience including managing and successfully delivering cross functional initiatives

  • Proven ability to successfully partner with internal clients and vendors to align strategy with deliverables, identify business challenges and develop alternatives to mitigate delays in delivery

  • Enjoys working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Ability to assess the impact or potential impact of change management initiatives of various sizes and degrees of complexities on business financials and performance

  • Well-developed interactive skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas, related to complex technical and conceptual issues.

  • Well-developed influential skills sufficient to obtain and support of executive-level management and elicit cooperation and consensus from CIBC's business leaders in the implementation of programs, and in situations that involve the promotion of CIBC's interests.

  • Well-developed writing skills sufficient to creatively and precisely articulate ideas that involve interpretation, analysis and assessment.

  • Well-developed management/leadership skills sufficient to lead/motivate staff and be able to function within a dynamic working environment involving specialists.

  • Knowledge of business intelligence, performance measurement and decision support concepts

  • Results and service oriented individual that consistently delivers results and drives towards goals with energy and enthusiasm

  • Effective leadership capabilities with strong people management and development skills - motivates and brings out the best in people, seen as a good listener and developer of people, secures trust and constructive relationships with team members and business partners

  • This role operates within a normal office environment

  • Infrequent travel – ie. 1 or 2 two to three day domestic trips per year
