Job Title: Senior Claims Specialist

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

AXIS Insurance is a world leader in specialty lines insurance, including professional liability within the US market. We are seeking a talented and dynamic claims professional to join our Design Professional & Environmental (DP&E) claims team as a Senior Claims Specialist. This DP&E Claims position will work under limited direction, acts as highest level individual contributor directly reviewing claims to determine nature of loss, coverage provided, scope of claim, and to make recommendation regarding settlement/disposition of claims primarily arising from Casualty, Environmental, Contractor, Surety, and Error & Omission coverage forms.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Highest level individual contributor directly reviewing claims to determine nature of loss, coverage provided, and scope of claim

  • Excels in a best practices claim environment, thoroughly documenting the claim process

  • Responsible for the timely evaluation, reserving and disposition of assigned claims

  • Documents coverage, investigation, damages, reserve rationale, negotiations, etc. associated with claim

  • Investigates potentially fraudulent claims and takes appropriate action

  • Makes recommendations for settlement/disposition of claims

  • Identifies opportunities for contribution, subrogation and contribution to the claim

  • Prepares required reports to senior management

  • Maintains and develops relationships with brokers, risk managers and general counsels, and a variety of vendors

  • Provides data and analytic based-informational support to underwriters

  • Provides support to underwriters with respect to marketing efforts, policy wording, and trending discussions.

  • May provide technical advice and/or training to junior level claims staff

  • Travels to mediations or settlement conferences as required

  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Juris Doctorate degree a plus

  • Typically requires 7 to 10 years of related experience handling claims in an environmental, construction and/or primary commercial casualty insurance environment.

  • Supervisory experience or perspective

  • Proficient in independently analyzing coverage, identifying issues and preparing coverage correspondence

  • Experience handling Pollution, New York Labor Law, Product Liability and Complex litigation claims

  • Proficient in drafting coverage correspondence, experience writing coverage letters and responding to/issuing tenders

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) and SharePoint

  • Strong writing skills

  • New York independent adjuster’s license or a license in a designated home state.

  • Nonresident reciprocal adjuster licenses where required

  • Good interpersonal communication skills

  • Good negotiation and analytical skills

  • Team player

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of New York, NY//Red Bank, NJ $110 - $150K; Short Hills, NJ $100 -$140K; Chicago, IL $90 - $130K;, Alpharetta, GA $85 - 120K. The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including the experience of the successful candidate and their work location.
