Google Senior Business Data Scientist, Global Affairs in Chicago, Illinois
Minimum qualifications:
Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, physics, applied mathematics, operations research, economics) or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience solving product or business problems using advanced analytical, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or statistical methods, including coding (e.g., Python, R, or SQL), or 6 years of work experience with a related PhD degree.
Preferred qualifications:
Familiarity with advanced prompting and meta-learning techniques (e.g., ReAct, Chain-of-Thought, Directional Stimulus Prompting) to extract insights and knowledge from complex textual data.
Familiarity with knowledge graphs, graph databases, and graph algorithms for organizing, analyzing, and querying complex interconnected data.
Exceptional communication and people skills, with a proven ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders and influence strategic decision-making at senior levels.
Advanced expertise in generative AI, machine learning, NLP, and LLMs, including feature engineering, data pipelines, and causal inference.

As a Senior Business Data Scientist, you will help the Business Intelligence Group enable a more data-driven/predictive Global Affairs organization. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is poised to make a significant impact in Global Affairs. With the power of ML/AI and the knowledge of Google tools and technologies, our goal is to leverage the GA data ecosystem to drive decisions for cross-GA strategic initiatives and boost business operations.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $177,000-$266,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Own and lead the development and implementation of data driven solutions, with a focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI, to address complex business challenges in Global Affairs, building an industry leading regulatory and compliance system, and protecting our ability to provide high quality products.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively identify and address AI/ML challenges and opportunities, specifically leveraging LLMs for text analysis and knowledge extraction, translating ambiguous business needs into actionable analyses and evaluation metrics, and presenting recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in data science and business analytics, with a strong emphasis on the latest advancements in LLMs and their application to legal, compliance, and government/regulatory text analysis, and contribute to the development of the team's knowledge and expertise.
