This is a public-facing role with primary responsibility for our Money Museum. Applicants should be comfortable presenting to a variety of audiences and have a strong customer-service focus. Project management skills and ability to meet deadlines vital. This position will also have secondary responsibility for assigned projects and programs across Public Affairs.

The Public Affairs Representative is part of the Chicago Fed’s Public Affairs team. This team has responsibility for the Bank’s public image, including management of the following: our president’s speech schedule, media inquiries, social media posts, website, video and design production, outreach to legislative offices, speakers for colleges and universities as well as directing our financial literacy efforts via the Money Museum, Money Smart Week and Fed Challenge.

Job Summary

The Public Affairs Representative assists in planning, designing, and implementing museum and other public affairs programs to enhance public education and understanding of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the System. Organizes, supports and coordinates various external and internal communications. Develops a proficient understanding of the Federal Reserve System and the Bank and conveys knowledge to visitors. Serves as point of contact for the public which includes giving museum tours. Coordinates and develops program for employee ambassador/tour guides including scheduling and training. Works across all outreach areas and contributes to projects as needed. Generates and coordinates web and social content for assigned projects. The level of work is considered intermediate and staff must be able to work under general supervision. This position has no direct reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedules, coordinates, and conducts tours for a wide variety of audiences including school groups, the public, and others

  • Monitors physical site of the Money Museum to ensure proper functioning of equipment/exhibits

  • Develops and manages employee ambassador tour guide program including training and evaluation

  • Contributes ideas to and works to implement the Museum`s strategic plan

  • Analyzes visitor experience data and offers recommendations

  • Supports implementation of programs and activities aimed at enhancing public understanding and support for the Federal Reserve System consistent with stated goals involving financial literacy/economic education

  • Writes and edits promotional materials for the museum and other program areas

  • Generates and coordinates web and social content for museum and other assigned projects

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor`s Degree or equivalent experience

  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience

  • Coursework including finance, economics and banking beneficial

  • Experience working in a classroom or informal learning environment beneficial

    Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences

  • Understanding of visitor/customer experience

  • Interest in application of technologies to Museum settings

  • Proficient in computer skills, including Word, Excel, Power Point and SharePoint

    Other Requirements and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 25 lbs.
