The Rush University Alzheimer's Disease Center (RADC) is leading experimental and epidemiological center for the study of Alzheimer's disease, which has no preventative drugs, and is expected to soon triple in incidence. Over the past two decades, the RADC has carried out numerous community-based cohort studies to better understand Alzheimer's disease and aging.
Position Highlights :
The RADC Lab Technician 2 performs day-to-day activities related to routine biochemical, molecular, and histopathologic laboratory procedures involving human postmortem and antemortem biospecimens in support of several multi-disciplinary research studies of aging and Alzheimer's disease. Processing, embedding, cutting, and histochemical and immunohistochemical staining of human tissue.
Retrieval, distribution, tracking, and storage of antemortem and postmortem biospecimens.
Biochemical and molecular analysis of human biospecimens.
Meets turnaround time expectations by prioritizing and organizing daily workload.
Performs accurate and timely electronic documentation of all biospecimens and processes.
Performs and documents quality assurance (QA), quality control (QC), biospecimen inventory, and routine preventive maintenance.
Recognizes QA, QC, biospecimen storage, and equipment problems or discrepancies with minimal assistance.
Performs supply inventory, mixes frequently used buffers, fixatives, and other routine chemical solutions.
Postmortem human brain and spinal cord, muscle and nerve biopsy, procurement, dissection, and preservation as member of Rapid Autopsy Service.
Provides on-call coverage as member of Rapid Autopsy Service.
Position Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree required; focus onneuroscience, biology, chemistry, or related science preferred
1 - 2 years of experience preferred.
Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail essential.
Capable of multi-tasking, remaining flexible and managing time effectively.
Ability to perform procedures requiring manual dexterity and repetitive motions.
On call required as member of Rapid Autopsy Service.
Physical abilities-lift or move 25 pounds; perform repetitive motions required for use of pipette, saw, microtome, vibratome, and other laboratory equipment.
Position is in laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious or hazardous materials.
