Summary:

The Field Service Engineer III will install, repair and service chemistry analyzers (https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/clinical/diagnostic-testing/instruments-automation/clinical-chemistry-specialty-instruments.html) and instrumentation to ensure continuous operation. Ensure customer needs and expectations are met and exceeded while promoting a positive image of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Incumbent would be based remotely in the Chicago, IL area and have a primary territory (IL, IN, OH, MO, MN, WI, MI, IA) and secondary territory (support for an additional 45-55 systems in the Northeastern/Eastern Region, including WV, NY, NJ, PA, ME, MA, VT, CT, and parts of VA.) to assist in other regions, in the event we are short staffed, and need to flex our resources outside of their assigned territories. Travel percentage is approximately up to 85%. Company funds all approved business travel and a fleet vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-site installation, repair, maintenance, qualification, and verification of clinical and discrete chemistry analyzers in accordance with instrument/product manufacturers specifications.

  • Provide effective, timely, collaborative communication when scheduling service with the customer, partner.

  • Ensure effective and timely service and appropriate documentation is recorded through required processes.

  • Knowledgeable of safe operations and maintenance of the analyzers.

  • Improve analyzer uptime and maintain a high level of customer happiness.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Must be proficient with the use of customer management software to handle service calls, parts inventories, and complete job tasks.

  • Collaborate with Sr. Engineer or Manager, Field Service to analyze, review and inspect findings to resolve source of problem, and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action.

  • Collaborate with hiring manager in problem resolution with factory engineering, technical support, and other personnel to expedite repairs.

  • Assist with on boarding of new hires.

  • Shows ability to coach/mentor other Field Service Engineers.

  • Opportunity to be trained as a trainer on one or more instruments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Instrumentation, military experience in a technical field or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level.

  • Proven track record performing duties in Field Service.

  • Effective communication skills and establishing good customer rapport are important.

  • Shown ability to prioritize service requests and produce clear and concise documentation.

  • Must have ability to work independently and have good interpersonal, communication and time management skills.

  • Computer proficient.

  • Must be available to travel overnight up to 85% within the territory or other areas as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. with assistance on occasion and to lift and carry 25-30 lbs. continuously throughout the day.

  • Ability to bend, squat, stretch, and reach daily in a service function.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

  • Regular and reliable attendance.
