Scope: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides care for individuals with autism in a home environment. Responsibilities include assisting participants with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) both inside their home and out in the community. ADLs include, but are not limited to; personal care and hygiene tasks, housekeeping, meal preparation, community outings, and following each participants Individual Service Plan (ISP). DSPs make certain safe environments are provided for the delivery of quality care to all participants.

Minimum Requirements:

  • US High School Diploma or GED,
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at the 8th grade reading level or above (successful completion of the TABE at an 8th grade reading level),
  • CPI, CPR and First Aid Certification,
  • Valid drivers license and proof of insurance,
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25lbs,
  • Ability to twist, turn, bend, stand, climb stairs and kneel.

Job Responsibilities:

Administrative/Professional

  • Always present yourself in a professional manner as a representative as PACTT to family members, guardians, and representatives from affiliated agencies,
  • Maintain compliance with personnel policies according to the employee handbook,
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant licensure and accreditation standards and required training (DHS Rules 115, 116, 50, DCFS and CQL Standards),
  • Ensure that all safety vehicle procedures are being implemented and the vans are well kept,
  • Ensure incident reports are completed and routed according to procedure,
  • Complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Participant Interaction

  • Demonstrate kindness, courtesy, flexibility, responsiveness and consistency in meeting participant and program needs,
  • Assist consumers with activities of daily living and personal self-care such as toileting, eating, grooming, bathing, dressing, etc...
  • Ensure all participant medical needs are met in an effective manner in accordance with DHS Rule 116,
  • Ensure that participants are planning and participating in recreation and enrichment activities in their community,
  • Ensure participants are actively engaged in learning new skills described within their ISPs,
  • Demonstrate daily efforts to assist participants with learning skills needed for greater independence,
  • Maintain direct and continuous supervision of participants at the program site and on outings to ensure their safety and therapeutic well-being at all times,
  • Provide participants with supportive counseling, conflict resolution and problem solving assistance on an on-going basis and at times of crisis.

Cleanliness and Order

  • Maintain the facilities according to PACTTs standards,
  • Follow cleaning schedules at assigned work site,
  • Consistently use proper cleaning products and materials for assigned cleaning tasks
  • Demonstrate respect for program materials and furnishings.
