Actalent Distribution Design Engineer - 100% Remote in Chicago, Illinois

Candidates can be based out of IN, IL, OH, western PA, or MI – able to work REMOTE!

Job Description:

  • Individual will be responsible for independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers.(The bulk of the work will be overhead.)

  • Individual will review work provided by client (DTE or Consumers Energy) and assess requirements of the scopes; There will be frequent communication with clients and in some situations in person for meetings (Michigan) and e-mail, teams, phone.

  • Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.

  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.

  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.

  • Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.

  • Prepare forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering practice (High School Diploma is required)

  • Experience with AutoCAD/CAD, MicroStation or similar design software

  • 0.5-2 years of experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing electric distribution design or engineering.

  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and distribution construction & design standards are required
