This position is part of the overall Deposit Operations Team that perform various functions to support all departments of the bank. This position will be assigned to the Item Processing Group within the Deposit Operations Team. The Item Processing Specialist will be responsible for providing efficient operational support while maintaining compliance with internal controls and procedures within the functional area. The role applies comprehensive technical and system knowledge to function as a point of escalation and provide timely resolution to complex issues. The Item Processing Specialist must be able to exercise independent judgement in determining feasible solutions to issues, manages situations that require further analysis and investigation. The role applies knowledge of the job to manage expectations, identify opportunities to streamline existing processes and procedures, and participates in the implementation of process improvement initiatives. This position is primarily remote but candidate may be required to come into the office for training and/or other events as required. The candidate will be scheduled for 8 hours per day between 8:00am and 8:00pm CT based on team rotation. Ability to work extended hours as needed.

Position Responsibilities

Performs a variety of Deposit Operations duties that require the ability to work in a time-sensitive environment with good critical thinking skills, accuracy, and diligence. This position is responsible for monitoring and processing all checks and deposits related to Deposit Operations of the Bank as well as providing support to our internal lines of business. Ability to work extended hours as needed.

Daily responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Review and process incoming deposit files from a variety of sources

  • Perform amount entry and data validation on rejected items.

  • Generate Cash Letter Exports to a variety of different destinations.

  • Perform necessary steps to balance transactions/files as needed.

  • Process outgoing return cash letter files

  • Perform all necessary smart assessment and MICR verify reviews as needed.

  • Review, reconcile, and process all end of day functions related to the transmission and cash letter.

  • Reconciliation of outgoing deposit statements and notices

  • Monitor and review work packets from other Deposit Operations areas.

  • Perform mobile deposit reviews and decision deposits according to established procedures.

  • Escalate issues as necessary to external vendors and follow internal communication protocols.

  • Quality review of tasks processed by other teams within the department.

All duties and responsibilities must be performed in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines.

  • Knowledge of FIS systems preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • College degree preferred, or a minimum of 2 years of back-office experience in a financial institution preferably in an Item Processing or Operations setting
