Summary:

Responsible for developing, applying, and enhancing 2nd line Credit Administration credit risk analysis for Consumer Lending in support of and under the oversight of the overall Corporate Risk Management framework. Responsibilities will include evaluating and monitoring of consumer credit risk appetite, emerging opportunities, and threats for the Consumer portfolios. The successful candidate will use credit risk evaluation and portfolio analytics to prepare and deliver engaging forward-looking analysis to senior management to ensure long-term alignment the bank’s risk tolerances. This role will interact with all lines of internal risk management peers including other first line of defense teams, corporate risk functions, internal audit, and external regulators.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide Credit Risk Management reporting and analysis for the portfolios with primary accountability for identifying and managing emerging threats across all components of the credit lifecycle via an enhanced credit risk MIS framework to ensure alignment with Risk Appetite and Credit Policy/Guidelines.

  • Partner with the Consumer Credit Director and other risk leaders to create high-value analytics to proactively manage critical trends in the Consumer portfolios.

  • Communicate key risks, outline risk positions, and present analytical findings with associated business implications to executive leadership at Credit Policy & Strategy Committee and line of business credit committees. The role will also require participation/ representation at various other peer risk governances, including corporate level governances or regulatory meetings/exams.

  • Effectively monitor Risk Appetite & KRI tolerances and thresholds for credit metrics for Consumer lending products. This role will be responsible for credit risk metric governance, including to escalate risks as necessary to executive management or corporate risk partners while driving to institutionalize a cultural awareness of risk management practices.

  • Direct manager for the Portfolio Risk Specialists Junior and Portfolio Risk Analysts to ensure complete, vigorous, granular analyses using analytical and statistical tools to identify credit risk gaps and opportunities to drive changes to credit policy and optimize portfolio performance. Actively develop Portfolio Risk Specialist/Analyst credit risk knowledge and analytical abilities by identifying leadership and growth goals for key talent.

  • Serve as Credit Risk SME as part of cross-functional teams (product, risk, operations, and finance) across the Bank. Assist with credit risk analysis for new product development initiatives (PSRA) to ensure that credit risk issues are adequately addressed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in credit strategy, credit analytics, or credit risk management for Consumer lending in the financial services industry.

  • 5+ years leading, training, and coaching an analysis-oriented team.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a similar quantitative discipline (finance, economics, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, business administration, etc.)

  • Experience developing presentations for executive and senior management to highlight risks and credit risk initiatives. Strong communication and presentation skills required including the ability to translate analysis into clearly defined and supportable strategies and policies.

  • Highly proficient in data management solutions (Oracle, SQL, Snowflake, SAS) and MS Excel with significant experience in manipulating large data sets. Must be able to analyze large amounts of data quickly to draw conclusions using quantitative data and qualitative experience.

  • Experience with regulatory exams including past direct involvement with regulatory exams by the OCC, Fed, and CPFB. Prior experience must include providing detailed, quantitative information as well as direct communication with regulators to explain credit risk process, portfolio risk strategy, and risk control environment.

  • Experience operating at a strategic level as part of a senior management team. Demonstrate awareness of the industry across the markets served and incorporate that knowledge into analysis and strategy recommendations.

  • Proven ability to meet tight timelines, estimate level of effort, multi-task, and prioritize workload required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or a similar quantitative discipline (finance, economics, econometrics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, business administration, etc.)
