Work Schedule: 8 Hr (9:00:00 AM - 5:00:00 PM)

Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator will assist Coordinators of Community Outreach in all aspects of education and recruitment. Responsibilities include recruiting and retaining participants into research activities, with special emphasis on retention. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for consenting activities, including garnering interest, scheduling sites and potential participants, explaining details of various research studies, and consenting individuals to participate in research activities, depending on eligibility. This involves deciding which study would best suit a particular participant, based on study recruitment priority, eligibility, and individual interests.

  2. Seeks out new communities for possible educational and research recruitment endeavors and establishes and maintains relationships with individuals in these communities. Serves as resource person to these communities and individuals.

  3. Meets with community members, including senior housing staff to create new collaborations for various research recruitment opportunities. Serves as resource person to these community members.

  4. Follows up on all interested individuals in research activities, when approached or after a presentation by a Coordinator Community Outreach or Director, Education and Recruitment Committee (including preparing copies of consents and additional interest forms for interested seniors).

  5. Work with Education and Recruitment Committee to retain all study participants through various means, including Quarterly calls to participants and research sites.

  6. Has a thorough knowledge of the various studies that we recruit participants. Serves as a resource person to the research operations team.

  7. Set task expectations and coordinates the scheduling of all presentations and participation in health fairs (including but not limited to creating flyers, making copies and presentation folders, arranging catering, finalizing dates of talks and consent dates).

  8. Works with Education Committee to coordinate aspects of various educational outreach events, including ASSIST meetings.

  9. Coordinates and implements mailings for recruitment and education programs.

  10. Assist Education Committee with collaborations with numerous organizations to create larger scale events.

  11. Creates presentation summaries and reports on follow-up calls/meetings.

  12. Markets research studies at large scale city-wide events.

  13. Maintains an organized, well-labeled file for study recruitment and education materials.

  14. Assist in the creation and distribution of yearly newsletters for the RADC.

  15. Responsible for ensuring that the RADC website is regularly updated.

  16. May coordinate and assist with internal educational functions and activities.

  17. Other educational and recruitment activities, as assigned.

Other information:

Required Job Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in a social science or related field and two years of research, recruitment, or community outreach experience or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience where the required knowledge, skills and abilities have been acquired.

• Understanding of research studies involving human subjects including the process of obtaining informed consent and the ethical considerations of study participation.

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Word processing skills.

• Able to effectively communicate the complexities of each research study to potential participants, (predominately older adults) and their families.

• Ability to use time effectively with only minimal direction.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Experience working with older adults.
