Job Summary

UChicago Career Advancement builds on the world-class UChicago liberal arts foundation to provide students with a competitive edge in their professional development. Career Advancement\'s Experiential Education team collaborates closely with partners across the University to deliver a wide range of non-industry-specific programs that are accessible to all undergraduates, supporting their diverse career interests.

Reporting to the Experiential Education team lead, the Assistant Director of Experiential Education plays a vital role in helping undergraduate students gain valuable professional experiences through on-campus employment and career-building opportunities. This position ensures students are supported from application to onboarding and throughout their on-campus work experience, providing individualized guidance, resources, and professional development programming to help them succeed.

The Assistant Director will engage directly with students to help them identify, apply for, and maximize their on-campus employment experiences in alignment with their career goals. They will also work closely with campus departments to support the hiring process, develop resources for student employees and supervisors, and track student employment outcomes. Additionally, this role will provide career advising to first-year students and support the Career Exploration Trek Program, ensuring students have access to hands-on, experiential learning opportunities.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about student success, eager to build strong relationships across campus, and committed to helping students develop career skills that will prepare them for future professional opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Empowers students to find meaningful on-campus employment opportunities by sharing relevant job postings, advising students one-on-one, and connecting them with hiring departments that align with their career interests.
  • Oversees and tracks student orientation completion for first-time campus employees, ensuring they receive the training and support needed for success in their roles.
  • Engages in frequent student outreach via email, workshops, and individual meetings to help students stay on track with job applications and employment expectations.
  • Advises students on how to craft competitive resumes, cover letters, and job applications, equipping them with skills that extend beyond on-campus employment.
  • Develops and leads professional development programming focused on workplace skills, job search strategies, and career-building experiences.
  • Partners with campus employers to promote opportunities, create recruiting materials, and support departments in sourcing and onboarding student employees.
  • Main ains relationships with key campus partners, including faculty, administrative offices, and the UChicago Medical Center, to increase employment opportunities for students.
  • Tracks student progress and employment data using Salesforce to ensure students are accessing opportunities and to provide data-informed recommendations to leadership.
  • Support the Career Exploration Trek Program, assisting in the planning and execution of 30+ treks per academic year, collaborating with program managers to ensure smooth logistics.
  • Conducts one-on-one career advising sessions with first-year students, providing guidance on career exploration, job search strategies, and professional skill-building.
  • Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
  • Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
