Notably, the epilepsy team, backed by the development of groundbreaking diagnostic techniques and a long history of research, has the experience to manage nearly all epilepsy-related problems from new onset seizures to rare and difficult-to-treat epileptic syndromes. Responding to the increasing prevalence of epilepsy and the complex needs of patients, the system is bolstering our epilepsy practice with additional experts and resources.

Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider will be working as a part of the adult epilepsy team through a collaborative practice agreement, provide specialized clinical assessment, evaluation, tests, treatments, therapies, medical management, and other direct care to patients under the care of the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCM). Position will be responsible for supporting the epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) and providing ambulatory care at UCM Hyde Park and potential satellite practices, with up to 8 clinics per week expected. Position will partner closely with epilepsy physicians and care team. This position may also assist with other neurological clinical subspecialties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining medical history and performing physical assessment.
  • Ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribing appropriate medications as set forth in delegation of prescriptive authority.
  • Prescribing appropriate treatments.
  • Screening patients to determine the need for hospital admission.
  • Making referrals to other disciplines as indicated.
  • Participating in the management of inpatients/outpatients as appropriate.
  • Practice Specific and Invasive Procedure Privileges are detailed in each APNs Delineation of Privileges.
  • Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
  • Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient\'s plan of care.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Preferred Competencies

  • Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills.
  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.
  • Ability to interview and obtain medical information.
  • Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
  • Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.
  • Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers.
