SLR International Corporation East Coast HSE Specialist in Cheshire, Connecticut

Synopsis

SLR International Corporation is seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to support our east coast operations.

Under the direction of the US HSE Manager, the HSE Specialist will be responsible for promoting and supporting a strong internal HSE culture across the US SLR business,with a focus on the east coast and central states where SLR is growing rapidly. This position willbe based primarily out of our Cheshire or Glastonbury, CT offices but may require regular travel to other central and east coast offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction and motivation, along with operational managers, to individual Office HSE Coordinators, supervisors, and general staff members concerning meeting SLR HSE program requirements.
  • Promote at all levels, pragmatic decisions and actions that protect health and safety.
  • Lead risk assessments on work being performed by our staff and advise on the appropriate controls and corrective actions.
  • Perform occasional project assessments to ensure safety risks are being managed.
  • Work closely with the US HSE Manager concerning design, implementation and maintenance of the SLR HSE program.
  • Serve as a member of the local Office Safety Committee and provide guidance to the members concerning meeting SLR, client and regulatory HSE requirements.
  • Communicate SLR's HSE policies and procedures to employees and contractors.
  • Promote pro- active reporting of hazards and actions that can lead to safety improvements, as set out in SLR Behavior based Safety program.
  • Communicate newly identified hazards, HSE requirements, HSE performance, and action items to appropriate supervisors and employees.
  • Adhere to the requirements of SLR Incident Reporting and Notification program in regards to prompt reporting of injuries and other incident and ensuring proper medical attention is provided to injured employees.
  • Assist with incident investigations and closure of associated action items as directed.
  • Assist with the development and/or review of project risks assessment documents as needed (site-specific HSE plans, etc.).
  • Assist with identifying employee training needs to meet regulatory, SLR and client requirements.
  • Provide and/or facilitate training to SLR staff members as needed to meet regulatory, SLR, and client requirements.
  • Conduct HSE program orientations of newly hired employees.
  • Assist as directed with managing SLR's Medical Surveillance and Drug and Alcohol programs to meet SLR, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist as directed with managing vendor pre-qualifications databases (ISNetWorld, Avetta, etc.).
  • Conduct internal assessments as directed on a project or management system basis to determine compliance with regulatory, SLR, and client HSE requirements.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of office emergency action plans for their region.
  • Manage applicable HSE documents and ensure that controlled confidential documents remain secure.
  • Drive continuous improvement of operational processes in regard to meeting HSE management system expectations.
  • Assist the US HSE Manager as directed towards monitoring and implementing actions to meet SLR Global and US HSE objectives and targets.
  • Report any identified HSE program nonconformances with SLR or client policies or non-compliances with regulatory requirements to the US HSE Manager. Assist with implementation of actions to correct identified items.
  • Occasionally participate in project related work for our broad client base within the United States.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety or related field.
  • 2 + years of growing responsibilities in implementing and managing HSE programs.
  • Strong knowledge of US Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Self-starter capable of working under minimal supervision.
  • Pragmatic and cost- effective approach to tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) an advantage.
  • OSHA-related training (Hazwoper, 10- or 30-hour Construction or General Industry).
  • Experience in the consulting environment.
