Trinity Health Recreational Therapist - Part Time, 24 hours/week in Chelsea, Michigan

Looking for an energetic and creative candidate to work with patients on an inpatient rehab unit. Job task will be to work with patients and their families on recreational activities the patient enjoys doing to help support the healing process of the patient. Prefer candidate with previous experience of working with the inpatient rehab population. Shifts will include evening and weekend hours.

Position Summary: The Rehab Services staff recreational therapist provides evaluation and treatment of leisure needs for hospital inpatients in rehab and head pain programs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to Chelsea Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Maintains knowledge to perform the duties of the job. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

Demonstrates self-directed learning.

Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health.

Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.

Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.

Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)

Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.

Orients patients and families to the therapeutic purposes, procedures and opportunities through Recreational Therapy. Facilitates patient and family participation in leisure activities.

Instructs patients and families in community resources for leisure options after discharge.

Prepares appropriate activities for patients staying in the hospital inpatient rehab unit and head pain unit.

Teaches daily group classes on the head pain unit.

Facilitates the Stroke Support Group one time per month.

Stays up to date on all participating insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services.

Provides thorough documentation on each patient interaction. Documentation must be timely and include all pertinent information required by state law and accrediting agencies.

Completes daily charges for each patient while adhering to ethical practices per insurance guidelines for each payer.

Works with Manager and secretarial staff to ensure schedules are managed well to achieve targeted productivity and clinic budget.

Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

1) Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure:

1) Bachelors Degree in Recreational Therapy from accredited university
