Chautauqua Institution Sweeper Supervisor – Amphitheater (Production )/Seasonal Employment in Chautauqua, New York

Description

The Production department works through the Program Office (https://www.chq.org/schedule/performing-visual-arts/concerts-and-entertainment/) team to bring artist and creator visions to life by providing audio, visual and venue production support. There are multiple events each day; events can include music and orchestral productions, visual presentations, special functions, lectures, conferences, and meetings.

Be the consummate host by safely cleaning and maintaining the Amphitheater house, stage and back-of-house areas of the Chautauqua Amphitheater.

About Your Compensation  

Compensation for this position starts at $16.00/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $17.75/Hour.   

About Your Work Day

  • Must be able to safely operate a company golf cart (minimum age is 18 with a valid driver's license).

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Unlock the building and prepare for sweepers' arrival at 7:30 am.

  • Check stage level and dressing rooms for readiness (cleanliness, signage) in conjunction with the Stage Manager.

  • Check trash pick-ups are happening consistently.

  • Check towels/linens are ready for weekly pick-up. Stow clean towels/linens when delivered.

  • Check coffee and water supplies and report if low.

  • Check housekeeping supplies and pick up and restock as needed.

  • Assist Sweepers in clocking in/out.

  • Supervise Sweepers in cleaning public areas while being aware how cleaning noises such as vacuum cleaning or using blowers may affect guests or neighboring houses.

  • Collect lost and found items from Sweepers and Usher staff.

  • Make a daily run to Lost and Found Office, PAVA Office, and Post Office.

  • Make sure all sweeper equipment is stowed after Sweepers have clocked out.

  • Assist Stage Crew on stage with program changeovers.

  • Report any maintenance or safety concerns regarding supplies, equipment and/or personnel to Amp Manager so proper action can be taken in a timely manner.

  • Assist the Hospitality Coordinator and Caterer when needed.

  • Other duties as required.

About the Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program (https://www.chq.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Referral-Bonus-Program-3-8-22.pdf) is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.

About Your Schedule 

Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August.  Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability.  Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. 

While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position: 

Will be scheduled to work Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for an average of 36 hours/week. Scheduled hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. The Amphitheater Manager will determine pre-season hours, but must be available to start June 6th, 2025.
