Messer North America, Inc. National Fleet Refurb Production Supervisor in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Job Summary:

As a National Fleet Refurb Production Supervisor, you’ll ensure safe and reliable plant operations, overseeing safety compliance, equipment maintenance, and regulatory adherence. Focused on optimizing and removing waste from our processes, increasing shop efficiencies, and ensuring the quality of our product. Additionally, you’ll lead projects, support staffing, training, vendor management, and supporting internal customer relationships. This role requires a focus on safety, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The National Fleet Refurb shop refurbishes industrial gas tankers and upfits Class 8 tractors for the Messer Fleet. Additionally, it provides national fleet maintenance support when needed.

Principal Responsibilities: Safety and Regulatory

  • Planning and executing of major and minor plant maintenance and improvement activities including management and oversight of contractors.

  • Ensure streamlined processes, system accuracy and compliance, spare parts availability and accurate inventories.

  • Manage site compliance to management systems; Serve as Safety, Health, Environmental and Emergency Coordinator, Document Manager, and Corrective and Preventative Action administrator.

  • Host internal and external audits: utilize Web Audit Manager and company Incident Management System to execute, document all corrective actions issued to the site from Audits and Incidents review (when applicable).

    Administrative and Managerial (Staff)

  • Assist with payroll and personnel issues.

  • Assist with hiring of operational staff for the facility.

  • Manage staff training and growth through computerized training program and performance management process.

  • Manage change, encourage capability, motivate staff, development and foster teamwork within the plant.

  • Ensure all employees, contractors and visitors are appropriately trained.

  • Improve the production process continuously

    Administrative and Managerial (Customer)

  • Manage Internal Customer Complaint process related to Trailer Refurbishments and Tractor Upfitting

  • Promote customer focus amongst staff.

    Administrative and Managerial (Fiscal)

  • Assist with planning budget(s) and control variable costs.

  • Perform benefit analysis for decisions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Required Skills:

  • Strong Project management/Change management skills/experience.

  • Personal computer proficiency using MS Suites (i.e. PowerPoint, excel), ERP systems, cloud-based systems and a quick learn for any additional software.

  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal abilities to support mentoring/coaching activities.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret engineering and electrical drawings to include P&IDs and One Line Diagrams

  • Experience in mechanical / industrial manufacturing & project management

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline OR High School Diploma with 10+ years industry experience

  • 5+ years of management / supervisory experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal project management training (i.e. Six Sigma, PMP, Lean) a plus
