EPB Boring Machine Operator in Chattanooga, Tennessee
Job Summary
The Boring Machine Operator will operate the boring machine and excavation equipment needed to construct and maintain transmission and distribution lines.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operate boring machine and excavation equipment for construction and maintenance of transmission, distribution, and electric and fiber lines.
Maintain maintenance records and logs for boring machines and excavation equipment. -Operate excavation equipment (backhoe, trencher, hydro-vac, etc.).
Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment safely at all times; Operate horizontal directional drill rig (HDD); Operate excavation equipment (backhoe, trencher, hydro-vac, etc.); Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment safely at all times.
Promote cooperation and good working relationships with other departments of EPB as well as EPB contractors – line and tree.
Know the appropriate written safety rules and procedures and adhere to them. Keep tools, equipment, and supplies in proper working order and maintain a clean, safe work area.
Attend safety meetings and actively participate in safety awareness programs and activities.
Assist in service restoration efforts as required.
Education and Experience
5 years of related experience as a horizontal directional drill rig and excavation operator.
Proficiency in operating a directional boring machine and locator, mini excavation, backhoe, skid steer, dump truck, etc.
Various related equipment operating experience required, such as trencher, boring machine, mini excavator, etc.
Certification and other Requirements
A valid “Class A” Commercial Driver’s with tank endorsement License from the state of residence.
Ability to obtain the appropriate registration with the Department of Commerce and Insurance, Division of Fire Prevention, State of Tennessee, for using explosives within six (6) months of employment.
Possess and maintain a current, valid Class A Commercial driver's license with tank endorsement in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles.
Ability to obtain and maintain a HAZPOWER certification.
Ability to write legibly and speak plainly to communicate job results effectively; ability to read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
Ability to read and understand survey maps, construction drawings, job and maintenance order sketches, transmission and distribution systems right-of-way, or easements.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Required to lift and manipulate weights up to 75 - 100 pounds.
