We serve a diverse patient population from across Virginia and beyond, including individuals with specialized needs from across the nation and abroad.
About the Role:
UVA Health is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and experienced Nurse Manager to oversee the operations of our Nerancy Neuro ICU (NNICU) and Neuro Intermediate (NIMU) Units . This leadership role is integral to ensuring the highest standards of patient care and operational excellence in two of our most advanced and critical care units.
The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, staff management, quality improvement, and patient care coordination of the NNICU and NIMU units, which together provide 24 beds dedicated to patients with complex neurological and spinal injuries. You will lead a dedicated team of RNs, charge nurses, and other healthcare professionals in delivering world-class care to our diverse patient population.
This is a full-time, leadership position with 24/7 operational responsibility for the NNICU and NIMU, ensuring these units meet the highest standards of care, patient safety, and nursing excellence. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and enhance the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages and supports the day-to-day operations of assigned patient care areas, ensuring efficient and effective care delivery.
Supervises all nursing and support staff, including but not limited to Registered Nurses, Patient Care Assistants, Technicians, Health Unit Coordinators, and related clerical staff.
Oversees the preparation of schedules, utilizing wage and flex staff as appropriate. Adjusts staffing based on patient flow and acuity.
Accurately forecasts and manages the unit budget, ensuring expenditures align with budget expectations. Maintains awareness of relevant benchmarks such as Paid Hours per Patient Day (PHPD) and Worked Hours per Patient Day (WHPD).
Develops and implements programs focused on continuous quality improvement, system enhancements, streamlined processes, patient experience, and overall nurse performance.
Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements specific to the unit.
Maintains high standards of care, ensuring that the highest quality nursing services are provided to patients and their families.
Develops and manages partnerships with clinicians, physicians, and administrative counterparts to achieve common goals.
Promotes integration of multidisciplinary work groups and encourages collaborative teamwork.
Manages recruitment, performance, team member engagement, and retention activities for assigned staff.
Implements the UVA Shared Governance Nursing Model at the unit level, fostering shared decision-making around nursing practice, quality improvement, professional development, and research initiatives.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range: $110,697.60 - $147,680.00 Annual
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program, Master's degree in related field within 5 years of hire.
Experience: At least 3 years of progressively more responsible experience as a registered nurse in a patient care environment required.
For Dialysis Nurse Manager: As required by job be a full-time employee of the facility; have at least 12 months of experience in clinical nursing, and an additional 6 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis.
Licensure: License to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Valid Virginia Driver’s license required for managers with responsibility operations in multiple locations. Must have applicable specialty certification at hire or within 3 years .
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
