Medical Center professionals in an ambulatory or outpatient setting.

Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED; no experience is required. Position Compensation: $17.00/hour + benefits

You will be paid a total of 40 hours/week. All course and certification fees will be paid for by UVA Health in return for 1 year FULL-TIME commitment as an employee at UVA Health once course is completed.

Medical Assistant Trainee (CMA) - Earn While You Learn Program

  • Performs basic clinical skills, as delegated by licensed medical professionals and in accordance with policy and procedure, to promote patient health and wellness.

  • Identifies patients prior to assisting with any intervention.

  • Assists with the collection of patient vital signs and weights and documents accordingly.

  • Assists with the patient rooming process and documents in the electronic medical record including setting specific patient screenings.

  • Promptly reports abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to the registered nurse, licensed independent professional, or preceptor.

  • Assists with patient mobility using safe lifting equipment and following mobility standard operating procedures for safe transfer and positioning practices.

  • Assists providers and clinical team with general patient care, including assisting with physical assessments, examinations, and procedures.

  • Assists with preparing examination/procedure room.

  • Assists with preparing and maintaining sterile fields.

  • Assists with patient procedure preparation.

  • Assists with obtaining labels and sending/transporting specimens for diagnostic testing.

  • Observes environment for safety patient and team member safety hazards and immediately reports potential hazards.

  • Observes and adheres to organizational safety policies and procedures including but not limited to sharps handling and management of biohazardous materials.

  • Cleans equipment and performs safety checks as needed and per protocol.

  • Promptly reports safety and quality incidents involving patients, staff, and/or visitors to a licensed medical professional or supervisor using the institution’s quality reporting process.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the institution’s fire/emergency/infection control programs.

  • Performs administrative support functions.

  • Completes supply stocking, inventory, and ordering as needed.

  • Maintains necessary skills and competencies.

  • Identifies strengths and opportunities for professional development and goals for self-improvement.

  • Completes annual mandatory training activities and regulatory in-service requirements with-in established timeframes.

  • Maintains attendance and engagement with formal education program.

  • Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care. Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.

  • Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and others according to departmental policy.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: -

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Experience: No experience required.

Licensure: No licensure/certifications are required to apply to this role.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires frequent bending and stooping; proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
