Robert Half Network Engineer in Charlotte, North Carolina

Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our organization's network infrastructure. The Network Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our network systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network architecture, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for staying up-to-date with emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan, and implement local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other network infrastructure components to meet business requirements and performance objectives.

  • Configure and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN concentrators, to ensure optimal functionality, security, and reliability.

  • Monitor network performance and traffic patterns, identifying and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and optimize performance.

  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and access control lists (ACLs), to protect against unauthorized access, malware, and other security threats.

  • Design and implement network segmentation and VLANs to enhance security and optimize network traffic flow.

  • Evaluate and recommend network hardware, software, and services to support business objectives and accommodate growth.

  • Collaborate with other members of the IT team to develop and implement network policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff, assisting with network-related issues and troubleshooting escalated problems.

  • Document network configurations, diagrams, and procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure continuity of operations.

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends in networking, participating in professional development activities and training as needed.

    Requirements

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Network Engineer or similar role, with a strong background in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-level network infrastructure.

  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and switching technologies.

  • Hands-on experience with network hardware and software platforms from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, and Fortinet.

  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools, such as SolarWinds, Cisco Prime, or Nagios.

  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices, with experience implementing security controls and conducting security assessments.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze complex network issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders, vendors, and team members.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.

  • Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are desirable but not required.
