Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this position is to research, develop, implement, analyze and continuously improve the Environmental Health and Safety program. Lead and manage all fire and life safety compliance programs to include, but not limited to AEDs, building safety, fire protection, emergency response, event safety, building evacuation plans, fire drills, hot work permits, contractor safety, powered industrial trucks, aerial lifts, fall protection and pressure vessels. Determine internal goals while collaborating with executive leadership to promote regulatory compliance within their respective units. Manage EHS professionals and establish detailed operational plans to accomplish goals.

Minimum Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience; or

  • Master’s degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

  • A master’s degree in business administration, public administration, management, physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology, or related discipline.

  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., CSP , CIH , ARM , CFI , CFPE , etc.).

  • Seven or more years of demonstrated health and safety program development, leadership, and communication skills equal to the requirements of the position.

  • Experience with establishing a fire and life safety management system in a higher education or public setting.

  • Experience using technology to automate processes and manage projects.

  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team building skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to investigate complex incidents, determine root causes and gain University administrators support to implement remedial actions.
