The Binding E&S Division of Navigators, a Brand of The Hartford, is dedicated to providing creative solutions to meet the demands of a dynamic small business excess market.

Responsibilities include:

  • Referral Underwriter for a geographic book of business

  • Analyzes geographic and individual book on quarter-to-quarter basis for potential action. Identifies potential quality management concerns and addresses appropriately.

  • Expertly applies all applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions.

  • Capable of underwriting highly complex business and will require limited support from leadership and infrequent referral activity to complete quotes

  • Broker Management which includes creating, driving and execution of strategies for new business growth and/or renewal retention (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial plans, etc.)

  • Acts as a trusted advisor and solution provider to Brokers

  • Partnership with E&S Binding Underwriting & Sales leadership identifying trends and recommending enhancements for increased profitable growth

  • Up to 25% travel (predominantly within territory)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

  • 3+ years of underwriting experience, excess and surplus experience preferred; title level will be determined based on actual candidate experience

  • Experience working with wholesale insurance brokers preferred

  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, both written and verbal

  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions

  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills

  • Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes

  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win

  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$81,120 - $121,680
