PNC Director of Corporate Responsibility Communications in Charlotte, North Carolina

Position Overview

PNC Financial Services Group is seeking an experienced leader to manage communications in support of its Corporate Responsibility organization and initiatives, helping create and share stories about how PNC helps deliver long term value for all stakeholders.

Reporting to the Senior Director of External Communications, the Director of Corporate Responsibility Communications will manage a small team who develop and distribute communications and content—both internal and external—related to PNC’s longstanding work in the areas of community business development, responsible business strategies, diversity and inclusion, philanthropic initiatives, and other topics.

A key member of the External Communications Leadership team, this position will serve as a trusted communications partner to the Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, and work closely with executives across the Corporate Responsibility organization and throughout the enterprise.

The Director of Corporate Responsibility Communications will manage 360-degree communications planning in support of key corporate initiatives and oversee the development of major Corporate Responsibility publications, including PNC’s Corporate Responsibility Report.

A versatile communications pro, this leader will also serve as the primary media spokesperson for all inquiries and announcements related to PNC’s Corporate Responsibility initiatives. Additionally, this leader will help manage issues within the Corporate Responsibility space while helping promote and protect the company’s reputation.

This position is primarily based in a PNC location in Pittsburgh, PA; Charlotte, NC; or Washington, DC. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities may be performed remotely, at manager’s discretion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promote and protect PNC’s reputation and brand through the company’s corporate responsibility narrative, illustrating the PNC’s business-centered approach that drives impact.

• Support successful entry into new markets by serving up PNC’s corporate responsibility narrative as a differentiator.

• Develop proactive and reactive strategies for corporate responsibility issues balancing the interests of the company’s employees, customers, communities and shareholders.

• Work closely with PNC’s Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer to support the execution of the company’s corporate responsibility goals and objectives.

• Position PNC’s Corporate Responsibility Group leadership as thought leaders in their respective areas of expertise.

• Collaborate on the development and publication of PNC’s Corporate Responsibility Report and other related publications.

• Partner with marketing colleagues on campaign development to ensure consistent messaging and tone across the company and its markets.

• Lead the team that:

o Builds and manages 360 communications plans in support of major corporate responsibility initiatives, announcements and events.

o Partners with Regional Communications team to create media opportunities for Corporate Responsibility Leadership in local markets.

o Identifies and develops storylines related to PNC’s commitments, illustrating the business case to both internal and external audiences.

o Builds relationships with key stakeholders across the company to drive efficiency and success in storytelling and data reporting.

• Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vision/values/business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience required, advanced degree preferred.

• Deep understanding of the corporate responsibility space and its related nuance.

• Experience and comfort serving as a media spokesperson, preferably in a public company and/or regulated industry.

• Experience managing large-scale communications projects and communicating complex and/or sensitive issues with a range of stakeholders, including employees, media and customers.

• Strong skills as a writer of both short-form content (social posts, media statements) and long-form content (executive scripts).

• A progressive approach to communications, with an appetite to embrace social media and other channels to engage with customers and key stakeholders in the most relevant places.

• Strong executive presence and the ability to present to leadership with gravitas.

• A reputation for being collaborative, enthusiastic, humble, agile, intellectually curious and cool under pressure.

Job Description

  • Leads the development and execution of all communications strategies to advance the strategic direction of the unit.

  • Establishes and leads overall communication strategies; oversees the planning, research, and development of content for complex communication initiatives. Develops and implements measurements to determine the effectiveness of communications plans and strategies.

  • Develops and maintains client relationships with executives and all levels of management, providing counsel on all aspects of communications. Engages other parts of the organization to ensure strategic alignment, clarity, and accuracy of message.

  • Provides final review and approval before internal or external communications are released to the assigned line of business.

  • Leads teams, coaches, influences outcomes, and evaluates success as appropriate. Typically has people management responsibilities including but not limited to talent management, performance management, staffing, etc.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree. Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable. Industry-relevant experience is typically 8+ years. At least 5 years of prior management experience is typically required. Proven leadership experience with a moderate to large scope of responsibility is required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
