The Colorants Lab Technician will be part of the Architectural & Decorative Coatings Technical Service team and will be based in Charlotte, NC, and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

We are seeking a Colorants Lab Technician to execute projects that will support BASF Dispersions and the colorants business. Reporting to the Technical Team Leader, this position will be responsible for the evaluation of colorant formulations, raw material components and provide technical support for our manufacturing team regarding color adjustments and testing trial batches. The Colorants Technician evaluates the color and physical properties of colorant as well as the performance of architectural coatings tinted with colorants. Color acuity is required for accurate color assessment.
During your 8-hour shift as a Colorants Lab Tech you will
Work on projects in the Colorants application lab to evaluate dispersions, additives, and/or pigments in colorant formulations to support internal and external customers as well as support product volume growth.
Work with Chemists, Technical Specialists and other lab members to complete application testing and generate accurate data in a timely manner.
The individual will need to be able to:
Perform experiments following instructions set by the project requestor
Make keen observations and be cognizant of opportunities
Adjust experimentation and problem solve as needed
Must be able to record, organize data and report results in a coherent and understandable manner
Manage multiple projects at once
Acquire a working knowledge of formulation practices and of application test methods typical for the architectural coatings industries.
Perform lab activities required to maintain ISO, 5S, and safety compliance.
Formula for Success...
Bachelors degree in a chemistry related science OR Associates Degree in a chemistry related science and 2+ years practical chemical laboratory experience OR High School Diploma/GED and 3+ years practical chemical laboratory experience
Intermediate computer skills in MicroSoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Teams and PowerPoint)
This position requires color acuity for color matching in projects.
