Health Advocates Network ASL Interpreter in Charleston, South Carolina

Health Advocates Network is currently seeking a ASL Interpreter to work at a facility in Charleston , SC. These are registry positions with our company.

Pay Rate: $45 / hour

*W2

"DUTIES:

-Facilitate communication access for the dear and hard of hearing students that utilizes ASL and/or total communication, classmates, educational staff, and others involved in the education setting

-Understand the student's communication level and adjust presentation to increase understanding as a language model

-When appropriate, assist with interpreting assessments and tests under guidelines of the specific test administrator manual

-Facilitate age appropriate social interaction between peers and adults in the educational setting to foster independent communication

-Preview curriculum materials such as text books, student materials, lesson plans, and media during planning time to prepare for upcoming academic classes

-Collaborate with IEP team members to provide feedback and information

-Attend IEP meetings as a service provider

-Provide an in-service to the school staff on the student's hearing loss, mode of communication, and use of interpreter services while in the classroom

-Collaborate with education team on was to assist with pre-teaching content specific vocabulary and reviewing of essential concepts

-Provide interpreting for other activities during the regularly scheduled school day as needed (field trips, IEP meetings, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a 2 year training program for sign language interpreters.

2+ years of work experience with hearing impaired children

Verified skills and or training in sign language

Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.2 at time of hire. Must obtain an EIPA score of 3.5 or above AND successfully complete the Educational Interpreter Written Assessment within two years of employment.

Fluency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)

Adherence to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment codes of Professional Conduct

Knowledge of language development of deaf and hard of hearing students

National certification in Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf (RID) and/or National Association for the Deaf (preferred)

Experience in education setting (preferred)

Bachelor's degree (preferred)

Current membership in state and/or national interpreter organizations (preferred) "
