Summary:

The University of North Carolina Hospitals (UNCH) Department of Pharmacy Medication History Pharmacy Transition Specialists (PTS) team consists of advanced pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students who collect accurate medication histories for admitted patients to facilitate admission medication reconciliation in the Emergency Department and throughout the UNC Medical Center. This position leads technician training efforts, identifies and executes process improvement opportunities, and prioritizes workflow. In addition, the position provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. This advanced Pharmacy Tech III position offers a leadership role on the Pharmacy Transition Specialist Medication History Team.

This advanced role will spend 10-20% of their time in administrative support, including but not limited to coordinating training, scheduling, workflow balancing, metrics development, quality improvement, and the Medication Reconciliation Working Group. Other time would be spent rotating in workflow with the rest of the Medication History Team, collecting histories on all inpatient services and in the emergency department. The current shift is 7:30a-4p Monday through Friday; however, may include weekends/evenings/holidays in the future based on business needs.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. Responsibilities:

1.Coordinates and supports the training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions. Develops training materials and completes training documentation.

2.Operates independently on process improvement projects. Actively implements identified solutions.

3.Assists the medication history team supervisor in reprioritizing daily workflow to maintain patient care.

4.Assists with scheduling.

5.Completes medication histories as a member of the medication history team.

6.Maintains expert knowledge of and helps maintain standard work documentation and processes.

Education Requirements:

● High school diploma or GED. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.·CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Two years of pharmacy technician experience required.
