Wolfram Research, Inc. Staff Accountant in Champaign, Illinois

Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Language, is seeking a Staff Accountant for its Accounting department. Wolfram is a fast-paced, global technology company where there is always something new to research and learn. This position works with internal and external accounting teams to help the company comply with diverse types of taxes.


  • Maintaining and balancing accounts and financial reports by verifying and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies

  • Managing reporting for revenue recognition rules and reconciling the results

  • Monitoring depreciation rules and reconciling the results

  • Assembling information for and coordinating preparation of federal and multi-state income tax returns

  • Ensuring required state tax registrations are applied for and maintained in nexus states

  • Maintaining sales tax compliance systems and managing monthly filing processes

  • Monitoring emerging international tax reporting requirements and coordinating reporting processes

  • Aiding in the implementation of new accounting software

  • Developing and performing end-user training for new systems, including the documentation of procedures for Accounting, Purchasing and other impacted teams

  • Assisting the Finance Manager with various reports

  • Performing other related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or finance is preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting related roles

  • Must have demonstrated experience with and knowledge of accounting and financial principles and practices

  • Strong numerical aptitude and learning agility

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and meticulous records

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • High degree of initiative and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

  • Efficiency in accounting research

  • Proficiency with Excel
