Summary: As a member of the Martin’s Family, the Packaging Lead coordinates activities of workers engaged in packaging bread and roll products for shipment by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Starts and adjusts packaging machinery; requests necessary repairs from the maintenance department.
Verifies correct date and pricing on product.
Inspects products during packaging process and coordinates further action for substandard product with Line Control Supervisor or Production Supervisor.
Observes packaging operations and inspects baskets and packages to verify conformance to specifications.
Assists workers in resolving technical problems.
Requisitions containers and other supplies for delivery to work stations
Maintains time and production records, including break sheets, food safety and safety forms, etc.
Monitors production order to ascertain type and quantity of product and other packaging requirements.
Maintains cleanliness of packaging department.
Relays any employee relations issues observed to supervisor.
Assists in the training of new and re-training of existing employees.
Attends quality lab meetings throughout shift.
Verifies accuracy of quick lok and quantity of pallets with completed product.
Manages inventory through transactions in the warehouse management system.
Designates rotation of employees throughout Packaging spots fairly and consistently and designates breaks throughout the day within the Packaging area.
Enforces and adheres to safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practice regulations.
Reports food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
Performs responsibilities of Packaging employees as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assigns and directs the work of packaging employees. Administers policies and procedures fairly and consistently.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED;
One to Three years’ related experience and/or training
Ability to successfully pass Food Safety HACCP training and competency test.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to learn and understand bakery analytics information including key performance indicators (KPIs).
Ability to identify and prioritize issues, generate solutions and use relevant information to drive decisions.
Proficient in Microsoft Suites products including Outlook, Excel, Word and Sharepoint.
Ability to learn bakery systems, including Apex, reporting tools, etc.
Language and Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, as well as, the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customer, clients and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and smell. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
