Career Opportunity

The Industrial Controls Technician maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components, welding and machining a plus. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronics and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing for the unionized plant. Position will be on an off shift. Electrical Troubleshooting up to PLC Programming required with Allen-Bradley or Siemens preferred.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment.

  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.

  • Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.

  • Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.

  • Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.

Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed. * Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting. Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.

  • Performing preventive maintenance activities such as lubricating, measuring wear, measuring positions, repositioning components; and observing operations, vibrations, and noise levels

  • Performing emergency / break down maintenance as necessary to support plant operations

  • Performing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, steam system, and other repairs and installations as needed

  • Installing wire and conduit for newly installed and existing equipment such as conveyors, programmable controllers, and machinery

  • Replacing faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and position sensing devices such as proximity switch timers, scanners and photo electric devices

  • Diagnosing and repair/replace faulty electronic components such as printed circuit boards

  • Troubleshooting drives, i.e. AC and DC

  • Reading electrical block diagrams, schematics as well as PLC ladder logic

  • Able to troubleshoot and program PLC

  • Design and create electrical line drawings and schematics

  • Maintaining clean and organized work areas, and cleaning up work areas as part of completing assigned tasks

  • Accurately and completely preparing and maintaining maintenance records and other paperwork

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Following all safety rules and practices

What you need to succeed:

  • Proven experience in the mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.

  • Experience in electrical troubleshooting.

  • PLC troubleshooting and programming

  • Drive systems

  • Troubleshooting expertise

  • Basic Mechanical skills

  • Computer experience/operation and PLC required.

  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.

  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.

  • Must be highly safety conscious.

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.

The starting rate for this position is $41.62 - $45.88, depending on your role, level and location.
