JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Lehigh Valley invites applications for an innovative and inspiring leader to serve as the Director of Student Affairs. The Director of Student Affairs (DSA) is the senior student affairs officer at Penn State Lehigh Valley and advises the Chancellor on non-academic student life. The DSA will provide leadership and management for all Student Affairs units which includes, Counseling and Health Services, and Athletics, as well as student government, student conduct, and allocation of student fees to provide an excellent co-curricular student experience and sense of belonging for all students.

The DSA also has responsibility for leading and supporting emerging and existing efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; behavioral threat management and early intervention; sexual misconduct prevention and response; and collaborating with Student Affairs colleagues and leaders across Penn State and the Commonwealth Campuses to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all students.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following responsibilities:

  • Proven track record, with increasing levels of responsibility, leading and managing multiple work units in Student Affairs, such as student engagement and leadership, counseling and health services, and athletics

  • Understanding student development theory and current trends and best practices in Student Affairs, including but not limited to student success, cocurricular programs and assessment, Title IX, bias prevention and response, behavioral threat management, and student care and advocacy

  • Demonstrated cultural competency and strong commitment to student diversity, equity, and inclusion supported by a track record of actions and achievements

  • Excellent supervisory skills, including developing multiple individuals at varying stages of their careers

  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills, including the ability to foster relationships across campus and with external partners to achieve mutually beneficial goals

  • Excellent strategic and integrated management, budgeting, and accounting skills along with an understanding of and appreciation for risk management policies and procedures, and crisis management plans

  • Potential to participate in collaborative efforts to develop new funding streams, including grants, philanthropy, and fees

  • Ability to advocate for Student Affairs while understanding and communicating overarching campus priorities and opportunities

This position requires a master’s degree or higher, plus 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strongly preferred: Experience across different institutions and a master’s or Doctorate Degree in a field related to Student Affairs

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $115,100.00
